About Kalachev Arts & Crafts

Kalachev Arts & Crafts is an independent carpentry workshop dedicated to the design and production of traditional and folk musical instruments. Founded in 2016 in Moscow, Russia, the workshop initially focused on crafting high-quality West African harps, including traditional Kora and Kamale N'goni, as well as modern portable variations adapted for traveling musicians.

Over the years, our passion for authentic sound, craftsmanship, and innovation has driven us to refine and perfect our instruments, ensuring that they not only preserve the rich traditions of African music but also meet the needs of modern musicians worldwide.

A Journey of Craftsmanship and Innovation

Since its inception, the workshop has continuously evolved, integrating modern woodworking techniques with handcrafted precision. Extensive experience with CNC technology has allowed for high-precision manufacturing, ensuring consistency, reliability, and superior sound quality in every instrument.

As a musician and craftsman, I personally develop, test, and refine each design, paying close attention to ergonomics, acoustics, and durability. My goal has always been to create instruments that offer a seamless playing experience, whether for traditional African musicians or those exploring new musical landscapes.

New Chapter in Thailand

Due to the increasing difficulties in Russia, Kalachev Arts & Crafts relocated to Pattaya, Thailand, where the workshop continues to grow and evolve. The move has provided new opportunities to experiment with materials, refine designs, and expand creative possibilities, while maintaining the same dedication to craftsmanship and quality that has defined the workshop since its foundation.

Each instrument is carefully handmade with passion, using high-quality materials such as Baltic birch plywood for strength and resonance, teak wood for enhanced acoustic properties, and high-quality nylon strings carefully calculated for optimal tension and sound clarity.
